TAR-21

TAR-21

IMI Tavor TAR-21 is a bullpup assault rifle, developed by Israel Military Industries. Characteristic of this type of gun is to be able to maintain the small size of the weapon, without having to change the length of the barrel. This is made possible by the positioning of the firing mechanism behind the trigger in the game. Ammunition used is the 5.56x45mm NATO or the 9x19mm Parabellum for the micro version.

Of this weapon there are 4 different versions:

  • T.A.R. 21: standard version for the infantry, whose total length is 720mm
  • S.T.A.R. 21: sniper version where the red dot optic Meprolight, is replaced by the more precise Trijicon ACOG 4x with the addition of a folding bipod under the barrel.
  • C.T.A.R. 21: compact, with a total length of 640mm for special forces.
  • M.T.A.R. 21: micro version, which adopts a barrel of only 330mm for a total length of 590mm.

Despite the weapon has collected a lot of support among the Israeli armed forces and the various countries that use it, like Colombia, Thailand or Brazil, the gun is not without flaws. First of all the price, which amounts to about $ 1500, and is approximately 3 times that of the M-16. Another problem encountered is that of the jam by exposure shutter and the complexity of disassembly for maintenance and cleaning of the weapon.
